Battlezone

Playing · modding · reverse engineering · keeping an old favorite alive

Battlezone has been an important game to me for as long as I can remember. I watched my older brother play it and was playing it myself from around age four in the late '90s. We eventually lost the disc, and I didn't rediscover the game until closer to high school, when I found the 1.5 patch and became involved in the online community through multiplayer and modding. It has been a pretty significant part of my life ever since. I've played a lot of competitive multiplayer and tournaments, including several third-place finishes, and spent years building large expansion-style mods for single player. These days I spend most of my time with Battlezone reverse engineering, patching, and improving Redux through unofficial DLL injection and runtime-extension methods—because, while Redux brought the game back to modern systems, it also left plenty of rough edges to work on.
